This post is slightly belated… I don’t know where I will find the time to do a project and maintain a journal for class while I am here, let alone update my blog! But I promise I will do my best.
Wednesday we went to Hameln, a city of about 60,000 that is very near Hannover. It is here that the story of the pied piper is said to have taken place in 1284, and there is actually much historical evidence of this! I was surprised to discover that it was more than a fairy tale, though the truth is stretched in most popular versions of the story. Our class took a tour with the piper himself, looking for clues around the town as we determined just what exactly might have happened so many years ago. Our tour guide was quite colorful indeed… and wanted to make sure we understood that rats were in no way part of the real story!
